Educational Article and Mini Rant: Breaking Research: Most Apps Bad

The article sparks me to mention that as a teacher using 1:1 iPads I find it amazing when I am asked what apps do you use in the classroom? The real power of the iPad is the ability to connect with the internet. The current stock of apps focus on basic and primary skills that are not relevant to middle school students. As a colleague of mine points out frequently teacher adapt to bad technology - and the lack of good app options is a fact.

This article "Breaking Research: Most Apps Bad" supports this belief. Apps should help student engage with material and teach them critical reading and thinking skills - instead apps too often are flashy smooth looking mirages covering up old teaching methods from decades ago instead of truly transforming education. Check out the article and graph highlighting the lack of quality apps.
